Author Guidelines

Prepare the manuscript with the appropriate journal template. Initial submissions are sent by email; manuscripts that pass editorial assessment are registered in OJS for peer-review tracking.

Initial submission: email the completed manuscript and supporting documents to editor.sjfm@gmail.com. Do not submit an unassessed manuscript directly through OJS.

Choose the correct manuscript template

General manuscript requirements

  • Submit an editable Microsoft Word (.docx) file in English, using Cambria and continuous line numbering.
  • Keep the title concise (maximum 20 words) and provide a structured abstract of no more than 250 words with 3–5 keywords in alphabetical order.
  • Identify all authors, affiliations and the corresponding author accurately. Use CRediT roles for author contributions.
  • Limit the manuscript to five tables and/or figures. Supply figures at 300 dpi in TIFF, PNG or high-quality JPEG format.
  • Include statements on AI-assisted tools, funding, conflicts of interest, ethics approval, informed consent, data availability and acknowledgements, as applicable.
  • Use Vancouver referencing, NLM journal abbreviations and DOI links when available. List the first three authors followed by “et al.”
  • Provide at least 15 references, prioritising primary literature and predominantly sources published within the last ten years.
  • All submissions must be original, within the journal’s scope and compliant with the Journal Policies.

Original Article

Use the IMRaD structure. Methods must clearly report study design, participants, variables, ethics and statistics. Results should include effect estimates, confidence intervals and exact p values where applicable, followed by a focused discussion, limitations and conclusion.

Case Report / Case Study

Follow CARE and include case identification, setting, clinical or forensic examination, data sources, ethics/consent, chronological findings, diagnosis, management, outcome, comparison with relevant cases, medicolegal implications and limitations.

Systematic Review / Meta-analysis

Follow PRISMA 2020. State the PICO/PECO/PIRO question and protocol registration; report databases, dates and reproducible search strategies, eligibility criteria, independent screening/extraction, risk-of-bias methods, synthesis, heterogeneity, publication bias and GRADE certainty.
